Repeat Prescriptions and Medications
Repeat Prescriptions
Repeat prescriptions are medications which your doctor would like you to continue on a regular basis.
Most prescriptions are sent electronically using the Electronic Prescribing Service (EPS) to the Pharmacy of your choice.
From 1st October 2021, your Pharmacy will no longer be able to order your repeat medication for you.
You will need to order your repeat medication directly with the practice in one of the following ways:
- Online via Patient Access by clicking here Online Services
- Online via our website by clicking the link above
- Via an app eg NHS App which is available through Apple store or Google Android - search for NHS App
- In Person by ticking what you need on the repeat order slip and dropping the request in the letterbox outside the surgery
- By post to the surgery: Station House Surgery, Station Road, Kendal LA9 6SA
- By proxy if you need someone to do this on your behalf
More information can be found on the online services tab
Please note we do not accept repeat medication requests over the phone. We need to keep our lines free for patients requiring appointments.
What is NOT changing?
If you order your repeat prescriptions already using online services, via an app or directly with the Surgery then these changes will not affect you. Your nominated Pharmacy will continue to receive your repeat prescription as usual.
Pharmacies, may continue to deliver your prescription if they are currently doing so. However, this arrangement is between you and your Pharmacy.
Why is this happening?
This is a national initiative aimed at reducing the waste of medicines that are routinely ordered but not needed. The new system should give patients better control over medication ordering. It will avoid stock piling of medication which can result in patients being confused about which medicines to take. In addition, it should prevent medication that has been stopped from being re-ordered by mistake
There is nothing to worry about- you will continue to receive the repeat medications that you take.
Repeat prescriptions will be ready in 48 working hours from your request (this does not include weekends and bank holidays).
Please note non-repeat prescription requests and queries may take longer to process and the clincian may wish to speak with you.
